3 Tips For Saving Money On Your Upcoming Move

Posted on

Are you getting ready to move to a new home on the other side of the city? Do you want to make sure that moving day goes as smoothly as possible? When you have a home packed full of memories, it can be expensive to hire movers so that everything can be packed up and moved quickly. On the other hand, you may not have the time or manpower to do everything yourself without hired movers. Fortunately, there are a few ways that you can save money and still get the moving assistance that you need. Some things that you should do include:

Pack a box every day

One of the reasons why people hire movers is because they get overwhelmed by the thought of packing up everything all at once. By packing at least a few things ahead of time, your movers can concentrate on actually moving your furniture and other items that belong to you. The less packing that they have to do, the quicker the job will be completed and the less you'll have to pay as a result. Even if you can only manage to pack a few boxes, this can still shave money off of your total moving bill.

Get a storage unit

Locating and renting one of the storage rental spaces between your current home and your new home can save you a lot of time and hassle. Your storage space can be used to hold some of the more seldom-used items that you own. This might include winter clothing during the summer or cycling gear during the winter. You might also want to include some of your more breakable and cherished heirlooms. The more things that are out of the way on your actual moving day, the less work there will be for the movers.

Donate items

Moving is the perfect excuse to go through all of your belongings and either donate or throw away those items that you no longer want or need. If you have a bunch of clothes and other things that you no longer want, it doesn't make sense to pack them up and either take them to your storage rental spaces or to leave them for the movers to pack up and move with you. In addition to saving money by having less stuff for the movers to take along, donating items to a charitable cause may be a tax-deductible contribution that will save you money on next year's taxes.
